Default Problems with nylon rode

Hi,

Anchored for a night in a place usually good for south/west/east winds
during a 25 knot NORTH. 4-6 foot swells in the anchorage, which really
didn't bother us.

BUT,

When pulling the anchor the next morning, my windlass didn't want to
grap the 3-strand nylon rode at all. Even when motoring toward the
anchor (we have 60 feet of chain plus 100 feet of nylon) The windlass
(electric) would not grab the nylon at all.

The rope seemed twisted, and I ended up having to pull the nylon by
hand and stuff it into the anchor locker (could've easily lost a finger
if I wasn't a Jedi Knight.)

finally got to the chain and after that, it was cake.

Is there any way to help the windlass grab the nylon better, or should
I switch to straight chain? (how many feet? - any nylon?? --- all
chain + snubber ?? )

age old question i know, but I guess my question is ---- is nylon 3
strand compatible/practical/usefull/useless with a standard electric
windlass.

You thoughts are very much appreciated,

Thanks,

Mike.
