old & spent most if its life on a pulpit bracket with minimal
maintenance (as most do). Internal tank & no frills. Call it an 8 of
10 cosmetically & mechanically. These motors are all the same
(Nissan/Tohatsu/Merc/etc). What are people reasonably paying for one
in private deals, from the classifieds or whatever? I am very familiar
with these motors but have no idea what they are going for these daze.

We purchased that exact outboard (but with a longshaft) new in late 1999 or
early 2000 for around $850 (on sale).

If you can get that 10+ year old outboard for $450 you are getting a nice
deal, assuming it is in good running condition and has good compression. I
would guess the selling price, though, to be over $500.

Even 50 year old 5 hp outboards are fetching good money. We sold an old 5
hp Johnson SeaHorse (vintage mid 1950's) 5 years ago for $120. My son ran
aground with it in our inflatable and broke the prop. We sold it for that
price with the broken prop (and external tank).
