Actually, it's kind of neat to use on some of the local lakes - you
get a good idea of the contours and can match up the finder with the
GPS.
Also, I've been up on Lake Qinsigamond in Shrewsbury which is in a
very deep valley when fog just came up and you can't see the front of
the boat. It's a big help getting you back to the launch ramp safely.
And it's a great spare for the big boat - just plug it in if the main
GPS drops off, push a couple of magic buttons and I'm back on line.
Actually, it's time I got one. I was on Keuka Lake (Finger Lakes) this
weekend, trying to find some fishy places mentioned in a fishing guide book.
The book had big numbered dots on the maps, referring to comments in the
accompanying text. But, we could not spot any numbered dots floating in the
water. Result: Skunked.
