Suicide bomber kills at least 16 in Iraq eatery

A suicide bomber walked into a popular restaurant Sunday in the heart of
Baghdad, his vest packed with explosives, and blew himself up, killing as
many as 16 people.

Reports say many of the dead are police officers or plain-clothes security
guards. Dozens of people were also injured in the blast.

The lunchtime attack happened near the fortified Green Zone government
compound, where the Iraqi parliament was in session.

The restaurant is popular with police and visitors to the Green Zone.

The blast was just one of a series of attacks in Iraq which have left
dozens of people dead.

Earlier, police said two Iraqis died and 20 others were wounded when a
bomb in a parked car exploded as an Iraqi police convoy passed by in
northwest Baghdad.

Police said the car, parked in Kadhumiya-Aden square, was remotely
detonated.
