What the hell are ice pellets? Is that the new politically correct name
for...sleet?

No, quite different in my experience. Sleet is a slushy, half frozen
rain which freezes on contact depending on ground temperature.
Ice pellets are small and granular, and hit the ground alrady frozen.
Fortunately I've lost contact with both and intend to keep it that
way. Temperatures were in the mid to upper 70s here in SWFL today,
and not a sleet or ice pellet to be seen anywhere. We ended up going
out to Cabbage Key for lunch with several of our neighbors on a 29 ft
SeaRay. Nice boat for its size and rides very well while cruising at
25 to 27 kts. Cabbage Key is a neat little place which I had not been
to previously. It's a small island south of Boca Grande with docks, a
restaurant, inn and cottages, all under ownership of the same family.
The cottages are all water side and come with a private dock for each
one.

Climbing the water tower is the typical after lunch pastime.
