to killfiled, and when you don't quote it give absolutely no context to
what you're replying to.
Try this: You're using Google Groups, so instead of hitting the "Reply"
that's inline at the bottom of every message, click "Show Options" up by
the header and then the "Reply" that is right under the "Subject" line.
It may take a few more clicks, but it'll automatically quote the
previous message correctly according to USENET standards.
For example, looking at your post on Google, it'll give me a text box
with the following:

All you then have to do is scroll to the bottom or below the point
you're responding to and start typing.
