Last fall, I was soliciting opinions in this group about an early
spring transit of Lake Erie to deliver the 32 foot sailboat we bought

The original plan would have had me leaving Detroit last Wednesday,
arriving in Buffalo on Friday, and spending the weekend preparing for
the canal trip. Can you imagine?

Am I ever glad we decided to bring the boat on a truck.

Yes, but the week prior was lovely, with generally favourable winds.
We seem to be getting a lot more easterly in our lower Great Lakes
winds than I recall. I know it was an issue on windward-leeward club
racing last couple of years.
