If you'd like a *usable* internet connection through your cellphone,
you might consider a new phone, and possibly a new service (you can
keep your phone number when you change carriers). Verizon offers their
EV-DO high speed data plan with speeds similar to ADSL, though it's not
built-out for all of their network yet. It's spendy, though, at
$80/month. I use a GPRS connection through T-mobile for my internet
connection. This runs me $20/month on top of my normal cellphone bill.
The computer talks to the phone via Bluetooth (wireless). The
connection is similar to at 28k modem connection--i.e. slow. I find it
adequate, though I supplement it by taking my laptop to places that
have free wifi when I need to download or send something big. The nice
thing about this is I no longer need or have a regular phone.
