Since rec.boats is overloaded with drunks, what do you recommend we do?

The best technique is probably to ignore the people you find truly
objectionable. Ignoring them doesn't include publishing a long list
every few days of the folks you have recently filtered, either. (see
netsock, Harry, and a few others).

A genuine jerk walks into the bar, hoping to start a fight. If he walks
around for five minutes acting like an idiot, tossing insults, etc etc
etc and nobody pays much attention- he will soon realize that he's
making a total fool of himself without achieving his desired end.

The cut 'n paste non-boat items, whether "Good News from Iraq," or
"Bush Texas Oil Cronie Indicted in Oil-For-Food Swindle" would be more
appropriate somewhere else, I agree. However, this particular bar has
earned a reputation as a good place to pick a fight.

It is amusing to observe how the reactions of various individuals to
the presence of specific OT threads will vary with the poster's
political frame of reference. We have several examples of people
yelling and screaming about conservative off-topic posts while
remaining silent or participating in the moderate or liberal
OT's.......as well as several examples of exactly the opposite.

Anybody who participates, at all, in OT threads has no moral right to
complain about others doing so. That would include our remailing
netcop, and you. Myself as well.

Gosh, we haven't had any Iraq good news in a while. I've never understood why
any good news about Iraq ****ed people off. It puts down no one, either right or
left. Yet it really seems to impact a few folks, like yourself. I don't
understand why.
