The netcop is an common reaction to a NG that has been overtaken with
political trolls. I find his posts a troll and just as offensive as the
other OT trolls. To use your analogy, Think of it as your YC bar. The OT
posters are the drunk obnoxious guy at the end of the bar. Some people will
ignore them, some people will pick a fight with him, some will try to call
the cops and have them escorted out. The truth of the matter, is the YC bar
will have occasional drunks, but if the bar is overtaken by local drunks, so
the YC members can not enjoy themselves any more, than it is time to try to
do something to bring some kind of order.

Since rec.boats is overloaded with drunks, what do you recommend we do?

politics come up a lot, so do women. People disagree, some storm out in a
huff.

Recently other than boating topics were labeled (OT) to make it easy for
those who were not interested to filter out. Without the OT, there would
be little discussion here, Although I have never asked a boating question
without someone offering helpful advice.

Face the fact that netcops don't work, they rile people who will post just
to harass them. If you REALLY want to stop OT, just ignore the OT posts
(but that would make for a dull group)

For the purists, the filter on OT should work just fine

For the wannabe netcops -- get a life!
