I have no idea what the boat would handle like on plane with the engine
off-center, but I don't think I'd want to find out. Surely you'd be fighting the
steering constantly.

I see *many* boats with trolling motors in the Chesapeake Bay. I've *never* seen
one with the main engine in a position other than center.
