Not as good as from the golden ASA years when the good Capt Said:
Yes folks, it's enought to make your stomach turn. Cruising
sailors eat out of cans a lot and, consequently, use a can
opener a lot.
Have you noticed your can opener seems to be getting a bit
dull lately. Does it have a rough time cutting into the top of
the cans and does it seem to be stiff to operate? Well, there
is a simple solution. First, get out a good pair of reading
glasses if your near vision is not too great and also get out
a little steak knife. Closely observe the cutting wheel of the
opener and commence to scrape all the crud off both side of
it. It will thoroughly surprise you how much caked-on,
bacteria-laden, botulism harboring, dried food debris has
built up on the cutting wheel. After you get done scraping all
the dried garbage off the cutting wheel get after it with a
little piece of sandpaper to get off all the rust.
Rinse and open a can. The opener will work like brand new and
you will not be having your canned goods' fluids being
contaminated by filth on the cutting wheel.
Bon Apetite!
Respectfully,
Capt. Neal "
