My Suzuki recommends good ol' 10W-40. I just changed my oil and replaced it
with Semi-synthetic.

I was looking around at some of the engine maker websites and stumbled
across the new Mercury Verado supercharged, 4-stroke, big outboards with
their sequential, multi-port fuel injection and miles of other
complexities
to ensure you have zero chance of getting the damned thing running if it
quits on the river, 35 miles from home.

One of the REQUIREMENTS of this ultra-sophisticated piece of American
ingenuity is its NMMA-certified FCW SAE 25W-40 motor oil. Of COURSE we
couldn't just have a super-sophisticated new outboard motor that ran on
just any old 4-stroke oil, like SAE SJ from Autozone. Oh, NO! We have to
invent a whole new line of ultra-profitable, very limited availability
motor oils you can only get at....guess where.....Your MERCURY dealer!
Federal law provides that if they specify a BRAND of motor oil, they have
to GIVE it to you for the life of the engine..... So, through the
loophole, we invent a new motor oil of stupid miltiple viscosity and
threaten to void your warranty, I'm sure, if you use SJ 15W-40 from
Autozone.

Don't suppose I'll be buying a Verado outboard.....or a Ficht....or an
OptiMax....any time soon. Stupid manufacturers still haven't learned
their
lessons......

Search Google for "NMMA-certified FCW SAE 25W-40" and look at all 4 hits
it
gets on the whole internet.....all Mercury, of course.

Wanna bet it's NOT $6/gallon? The damned thing holds EIGHT quarts of it!
