You may be better off buying a covered Amsteel such as Warpspeed, and
stripping the cover where desired. I did this with instructions on the
Samson website. The end of the cover is buried inside the core. This was for
my spinnaker guys, which are rigged only when used.
For my main halyard I used Warpspeed --smaller diameter, of course--and
inserted "snakes" inside the core to build up the diameter where the clutch
would engage.

However, it seems the core would be easier, being inside the 12 strand
Amsteel. I can't quit imagine the procedure for securing the ends of the
jacket when installing it on the outside. Especially where it passes
through
the mast openings (internal halyards) and could snag the jacket ends.

Also, since I want to do this at each reef location on the halyard, should
I
run this jacket or core continuously or just in the winch/clutch
locations
for each service.

Can someone direct me to a link or procedure to add this jacket or core??
