I'm interested in the new Merc 9.9 four stroke at 84# for my dinghy. They
are supposed to lie on one side or vertical so all the oil doesn't run
out. My dinghy is stored on Weaver snap davits so it is rotated up 90
degrees out of the water when travelling. If I leave the outboard on the
dinghy it will rotate up onto the side it is supposed to be stored on.
Neat.

So what happens if I run into a few waves and the boat (36' trawler)
bounces around a bit, roll, pitch or yaw? Will oil run out? Or should I
just stick with a two stroke.

I could get that Weaver thing that pivots the motor vertical when you
crank up the dinghy, but it costs too much and it is UGLY.

I would think that a motor stored in the horizontal position off your
inflatable (in the vertical position) would be ugly.

Why not buy a swivel bracket to mount on the inflatable transom that would
allow you to store the motor and inflatable in the vertical position off the
swim platform?

No one ever said boating is cheap. ;-)
