Ask your agent about adding a boat/trailer rider to your homeowner's
policy.
That's what we did- it costs $107 per year.
This is about the cheapest insurance you can get and works fine until you
start thinking about your potential liabilities. For example, a rider on
your homeowner's policy is not going to cover oil or gas spills. If you
have a major accident, the boat sinks and leaks gas, oil or diesel, the
government will own your house.
A good marine insurance policy is not that more expensive and typically has
at least 500k protection for oil spills.
