I have a heavy 4 point grappling hook type anchor for the gravel rivers.

How's it work? I wouldn't have thought a grappling hook would work very
well in gravel. Any problems?

Works pretty well. Weight is about 20# and the grappling hooks have maybe
3" wide flukes at the end likd a navy anchor. I am looking at buying what
we call an Orlands anchor (because the guy who first made them lives in
Orlands on the Sacramento river). They are heavy and shaped somewhat like a
Danforth, but has a round tube bottom that you can fill with lead for even
more weight. Best feature is the shank is a round tube that is held in
place by 2 x 1/2 tubes under spring tension. So if the hook is really
wedged in the river, you can drive the other way and pull the shank out of
the holders and then pull the anchor out backwards.
