We went to the Chantilly Boat Show last night at the Dulles Expo
Center near Dulles Airport and didn't come away very impressed. One
of my main goals was to hopefully get a look at the new Crownline
open-bow boat - either model 315 or 316, I don't remember what our
salesperson at Shy Beaver (James Creek, PA) said. Anyway, there was
only ONE Crownline dealer at Chantilly and he didn't have anything
over 25' at the show and stated he would probably not even order a
315/316 unless it was a specific customer order. He then proceeded
to (lightly) pressure me into ordering one. Fat chance !
Lots of nice ski boats there - the wife really liked the 25' Malibu.
Nice floor design, plenty of motor (425hp 8.1L Vortec), and awesome
music - 13 speaker system.
I went out there once and thought it a distant second to the DC boat
show, which is 2nd rate, at best.
If you want to compare shows for those of us "ordinary people" (less
than millionaires), Toronto has the best IMHO
Never been to a Toronto boat show. The best I have been to in recent
years have been in Annapolis and in Miami. Lots of boats for every
wallet at both shows. The Miami show is overwhelming. Best boat babes, too.
2nd week in January -- at the Canadian National Expo Site.
At the moment your $1 is worth $1.30 or so Canadian -- who knows about
next year.
2 years ago I went to an Ikea store in Hamelton (with an American
Catalog) and they charged me American prices, but still gave me the
exchange rate -- AND since my purchases were less than $500 the customs
people waved me through.
Helps that I can drive to Toronto in about 4 hours.
