We have plenty of life jackets on board to meet the requirements. But
they
are just the 4-to-a-Box ones you get from West Marine. I'm thinking we
should have some decent ones on board. A friend used to have one that fit
more like a wind-breaker than a life-preserver. I like that idea because
I'd
probably actually wear it more often. Any reccomendations on brands that
wear well, etc.?
I have the Mustang jacket which is a good one and an Orca inflatable.
Of the two, I prefer the Orca as it's much more versatile. The Mustang
is heavier and it gets very hot to wear in marginal weather. The Orca
is a multi-function jacket that can convert to a vest system which I
like more. In cold weather, I wear the Mustang.
Remember, if you opt for an inflatable, it has to be worn to count as
a life preserver if you are stopped by law enforcement. Just having
it aboard does not count - it has to be worn.

Since we have cold water and not so cold temperatures, I have a Sterns Float
Coat for the cold days on the ocean, or delta. Is very comfortable. Is not
as long as the Mustang long coat.
