Frederick B,
How do you like the Mohawk Intrepid? I live in SE VA and I have
excellent access to the Dismal Swamp Canal and Lake Drummond. I am
shopping for a canoe and the Mohawk line seems to be in the lead.

I love it. It's my favorite toy. It's a tandem. Even with 3 people it
responds well and remains quick. I haven't tried it solo yet, but at
17'2" it's kind of big and heavy for that. Mine's royalex, but the
R-84 royalite version is quite a bit lighter. I chose royalex 'cause I
do a fair share of sliding over rocks when the river's low (normal in
summer). If I was paddling exclusively in deeper water or grassy
shallows, I'd go with the lighter royalite. The *only* reservation I
have is the weight. But, that was a conscious trade off for some extra
durability.

The Intrepid is supposed to be a little more maneuverable and better
suited for light rapids when compared to the Mohawk Nova. I'd've gone
with the Nova for tandem canoeing in the tidewater and Dismal Swamp areas.
