I would say either A or D depending on how close & how fast the vessels
are moving. The question gives no info as to whether it would be better
to turn stbd or port, and "take precautionary action until" is
bureaucratic-sounding useless twaddle.

A. No You are in Inland waters exchanging whistle signals. That means
you are fairly close to each other and maneuvers needed. Maintaining,
will just increase the danger.

D. No To maneuver around the stern will require you to turn to port for
a vessel on your port side ..... highly frowned upon and rightly so.

The precautionary action you can take can include many things .... most
notably will probably be slowing down or stopping, but both "A" and "D"
should not be included as "first thoughts".
