Ethanol is heavily subsidized in the US thanks to Cargill and Bob Dole. It
actually increases pollution by lowering the gas mileage and efficiency of
a
car engine. Looking at the total production cycle ethanol is a bust as far
as cost and pollution.

This sounds like oil industry BS. Not to mention that ethanol has never
been tested as a sole fuel source, rather only as a small percentage of
gasoline. Odd that race cars, such as Indy cars, used to run solely on
ethanol with a tiny percentage of nitromethane added for increased
performance. Ethanol increases octane ratings, allowing it to be used in
higher-compression engines.

If ethanol were such an prolific pollutant, why then do we have alcohol
stoves on boats, but no gasoline stoves? Why do most authorities agree that
ethanol is safer for this use than kerosene, not to mention far less smelly?
