You folks still don't get it. I want them to stay up on plane and "maintain
normal speed" Is that a better way to put it?

We get it but the remedy you are proposing only works for smallish,
light weight boats on a fast plane. If a heavy boat like a sportfish
or motor yacht goes by you on plane, you will think a tsunami has
arrived. The point that Karl and I were making is that if you want a
large heavy boat to go by you with out leaving a wake, you need to
sloooow way down before they arrive. If I see a small boat ahead of
me slow down, I will go to idle speed and drop my wake to near zero.
If the boat ahead persists at moving at or near my idle speed however,
then I can only pass leaving a good sized wake.
