Here's some great information on the new IRC rule.
Includes comparisons to PHRF and IMS as well as how to get one and what
it means to any sailboat racer. Seems it is going to be taking a
strong hold in the US and if you race, you should know about it.
Not if you race one-design.

So What's Wrong With It?
Ahh, glad you asked. What's wrong with it is that the MATH IS SECRET
...It will be very difficult for designers to optimize boat designs
to take advantage of some loophole in the math calculations.
Does anybody really think that it will stay secret for very long?
Google "security by obscurity" before answering...
No, of course it won't stay secret, that's ridiculous. The only reason
the sailing world "needs" a new rating formula is that megabucks IMS
campaigners have lost interest.
This happened with IOR, with the Universal Rule, International Rule, etc
etc. I haven't been following the news, it seems to me like a new rating
rule should be announced following the implosion of the latest "offshore
one-design" class.
