Harry,
What are the service bills running on your Yamaha? How many hours do you
have on it now?
I found the bill. It was in my desk, not in my vehicle.
I paid:
Oil filter element 22.00 (yikes)
six quarters yamaha oil 30.84 (yikes)
2 gaskets 3.74
fuel filter 10.73
cleaner-degreaser 6.95
CRC 3.45
fogging oil 4.95
lower unit lube 18.75
The labor charge for these services was $145, but that included a complete
boat and engine washing, inside and out, and a full check and run of the
engine going in to storage and coming out in the spring, along with lube
of engine and control fittings.
Add another $180-200 for the water pump impeller and thermostat
replacement...and another $100 in labor and parts for the anodes...and
you're at my magical $600 ($550 plus $50 to transport the boat to the
marina). I love my 4-stroke...but I'm not real thrilled with the
maintenance costs. Of course, at a 12gph burn rate times 100 hours of
running equals 1200 gallons of fuel burned. If my engine was a 2-stroke
that used Yamalube at 50:1, I'd have burnt 30 gallons of the stuff (it sells
for $24/gallon at West Marine...although a few places sell it in bulk for
around $16-18/gallon). So the 100 hour oil change is still less than
2-stroke oil.
