I've read a lot in this newsgroup about engines with FICHT technology.
Seems likeI've only seen the label on Evinrudes.
I won't go any where near a 98-99-2000 Evinrude.
Was FICHT also used in Johnsons?
I'm looking at a Proline 251 on Ebay. The engine is a '99 Johnson 200 Ocean
Pro.
The engine is a dark gray/blue color.

Mercury continued with its EFI and carburated models as it marketed the
Opimax.
Did OMC?
Yes the same with OMC they continued building the normal carb engines
under the Johnson brand, mostly same parts, even same production & they
were no more trouble than Merc of Johnsons ever were.
If it's a "Johnson" you should be safe just make sure you don't get a
ficht or a renamed "ficht" (E-tec??)
Oops almost forgot:-) & make sure you get the VRO (or whatever the
latest name used is) disconnected so you can run 50-1 outboard oil in
the fuel tanks.
