A minor thing like a broken boom does not compare to a capsize.
A capsize happens because of bad judgment on behalf the
helmsman while a broken boom happens because of extended
wear and tear on systems that are decades old and in almost
constant use.
In other words, a mechanical failure is entropy expressing itself.
Contrariwise, a capsize on a multi-hull is more often the doing of
an operator expressing his or her poor judgment or skills.

So, did you know that your boom was going to snap when the breeze puffed up
a bit?
