The Dowsers usually find the spot where they want to drill.

I was first shown it with a man and two bent brass rods. Then I had a
welder in the maintenance shop bend two pieces of brazing rods and ask
me were I wanted to find water. He could make those tips come together
anytime and any place he wanted. He could make them come together right
where he was standing in the weld shop by just shuffling his feet
without changing his physical location. Then he held out his hand for
his Dowsing fee.
He taught me how to do it, for free.
