Communism will collapse in China because of how "open" a society it has
become. I had a patient tell me about a visit he had to make to the dentist
while visiting China. A limo picked up him and an employee of the hotel he
was staying at and drove them down to the local hospital/health center. He
said the place was the dirtiest, most overcrowded facility he has ever been
to. He was ready to turn around and say forget it (he just needed a crown
recemented), but the hotel employee insisted he go in. He got on the
elevator, went up a couple of floors, passed through a couple of doors...and
entered the most state-of-the-art, high-tech, clean dental office he's ever
seen. They recemented his crown, and the limo took him back to the
hotel...for $18. Everybody being treated in the dental clinic were
foreigners from the US, Europe, Canada, etc.

The government puts a great face forward towards visitors while its people
live in squalor. I'd imagine such a scenario can't exist forever. There's
1.2 billion Chinese over there watching Americans, Canadians, and Europeans
come over and be treated like royalty. Eventually, those citizens will
wake up and demand some of what we have...and the current government will be
tossed aside.

"Free" China (aka Taiwan - not the PRC) is planning to hold a referendum
next year that asks the PRC to remove the 500 missiles it has poised to
strike Taiwan and to renounce the use of force.

The PRC, naturally, opposes that referendum, and has convinced its boy
in Washington, Dubya Really Dumb, to endorse its view and to urge Taiwan
to NOT hold its referendum.

And Bush is the President who has stated he "favors" freedom, but is too
weak-kneed to stand up to the PRC and tell it to stop threatening tiny
Taiwan.

What a pussy.
