how can you tell when it's time to replace the pump? should this be done on a
yearly basis? I'm planning to use this boat not a whole lot through next year,
but will give it a good running over holidays and three-day weekends.

I suppose what I'm asking is this: is there any specific time/hours for pum
maintainence.

Some folks never replace impellers. Others replace them yearly.
Sometimes people in the first category convert abruptly to the second
category after a failure. Impellers are cared for by never running
dry, ever. Your call.
