Never "cruised" in Hawaii, but I went to Maui this summer to check out
the "marina situation" in anticipation of possibly moving there.
Phew!

There's only two marinas on Maui, one at Lahina and one at Ma'alaea,
and both of them are so nasty bad that they would make a truck stop in
Enid, Oklahoma look like a paradise in comparison. Both were full of
mostly old derelict boats and tourist "Sunset Cruise" boats, dirty,
unkept, no facilities, etc.

Lahina has an anchorage area about 400 - 500 yards off shore with
several dozen boats, but with the exception of this anchorage and the
two "yucko" marinas, there's really no other "destination" spots on
Maui.

Unbelieveable for a sailing environment as nice as Hawaii. I just
wonder what the "officialdom" of Hawaii is thinking, there's a huge
potential for sailing but only two crappy marinas on Maui.

Gonna try Oahu next.

Can anyone recommend one or two nice short sailing destinations out of
Honolulu? Will be crusing for 4 to 5 days in late November and trying
to figure out a nice spot to sail to.

thanks
