screw asks:

-My favorite is when you see a 21' day sailer crossing the path of an 800'
container ship that is headed up the bay to Baltimore. Who has the right away
all of the way to the bottom of the bay?-

Bilge-Depends on what ya mean by "bottom of the bay" don't it? (g)

I took the Wright out on an exercise back in 2000, and the Chief Mate and I
were hanging out on the bow to release the brakes on the anchor windlasses, if
needed...the "emergency brakes", so to speak.

While we're shootin' the breeze in the Bremerton Channel(?), I remarked to him
that he should be glad he wasn't on watch and checking the DARPA radars.

He asked me why, and I pointed out that it was a clear summer Sunday morning,
with a steady 10-15 knot wind from the northwest, and ascertained that he'd
never sailed past Annapolis under these circumstances.

Sho' 'nuff, the Bay Bridge heaves into view, and I directed his attention to
the veritable infestation of sails just visible beneath the spans.

I asked him what THAT target would look like on the radar plot. He chuckled
ruefully and admitted that he really did prefer "emergency brake" duty.
