Guy,

Notice to Mariners for Qld are available from
http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/n...f?OpenDatabase .

BTW no paper charts or digital charts contain NTM.......these need to be
used in conjunction with your charts.

You can also get NTM (even by email) from Australian Hydrographics Service
at http://www.hydro.gov.au/

As for the zoom issue, i seem to have the following:

Basemap ON
Metroguide ON
Bluecharts ON
Most Detail

Base map Showing at 80km and greater
Bluecharts showing at 20km, 30km & 50km zoom levels
Metroguide showing at 20km (12km and less)

I assume this is normal as most people don't use bluecharts and Metroguide
at the same time :-)

Regards

Andrew

Hello Andrew

Thanks for these precise answers and ALL the pointers to the different
websites

I am specially interested by your remarks/comments below as I sail around
Brisbane and above Cooktown.

BTW bluecharts are designed for navigational reference only. In a marine
environment they are not accurate enough to use as the only form of
navigation aid. If you have an accident due to their use, Marine Safety

Qld
(or state equivalents) would be questioning your use of these charts.

For
example, they do NOT include Notice To Mariners (NTM) information which

is
vital in some cases. Read the warnings about "......and it must not be

used
to assist in navigation".

I certainly DID NOT realized NavChart did NOT include Notice To Mariners
(NTM) .

It is too late now, so I have to update manually my maps.
This is NOT a great task but very important to be on cue with the sailing
boat.

Would you know where I can find more information on "Notice To Mariners
(NTM)" for Brisbane and from Cooktown to North_Princess_Charlotte_Bay?

I only bought this last Garmin GPS MAP60c only a few days ago.
The Garmin_Rep will talk to me on Monday and see what happen :-) :-o :-o

..

I am NOT concerned as such but I had a guts_feeling something was not

adding
up when NONE of my precise questions got answered.
Your email certainly supports my gut feelings.

I haven't got time to read every fine print on the subject because I

already
work in micro electronic design(total overload of detailed info).
All I am after is enjoying my sailing - which I do - and be aware of the
"shortcoming" when coming to it.

Thanks for pointing all these fine points to me.

Hi Guy,

Don't be dissapointed......i have a similar setup (though with the 60CS

and
MGA) and seem to have no trouble :-)

Answered below........

The Australian dealer successfully uploaded part of bluechart Pacific

V
6.5
plus city navigation Australia V5 in my 60C -Software version 3.50.

Not hard to do it yourself..........

I think the quality of the GPSMAP60C is great but there is a serious

lack
of documented manual from Garmin.

All manuals should come with it....the other fun thing to do is to

explore
:-)

In a rough estimate, my GPSMAP60C has about 25% more "undocumented

screen"
than Color_Map_Navigator_Owner's_Manual describes.

What about in the 60C manual or the mapsource user's manual?

I have NOT been to get an explanation about these screens.

Plus the Color_Map_Navigator_Owner's_Manual explains about road

navigation
but mentions hardly anything about Marine Navigation.

Bluecharts are predominately just maps.....nothing else.....
They are use for waypoints, tracks and routes. You cannot use it the

same
as
CN :-)

BTW bluecharts are designed for navigational reference only. In a marine
environment they are not accurate enough to use as the only form of
navigation aid. If you have an accident due to their use, Marine Safety

Qld
(or state equivalents) would be questioning your use of these charts.

1) Would anyone know where I can find more marine explanations for the
MAP60C?
Like a "Reference Manual" or webpages for the MAP60C?

They should have come with your new purchase? Anyway........

GPSMAP 60C reference manual ==
http://www.garmin.com/manuals/GPSMAP...nersManual.pdf

BlueCharts basic manual ==
http://www.garmin.com/manuals/MapSou...UsersGuide.pdf

2) Because my MAP60C is loaded with the Basemap(original) plus 2

types
of
charts ( bluechart Pacific V 6.5 plus city navigation Australia V5 ) I

have
problem to "hide" and "unhide" the bluechart and city navigation.
Menu SetupMenu
then it displays
"Menu"
--restore defaults
-- restore ALL map defaults
--Show All
--Show None
-- Show Basemap
-- hide Bluechart Pacific
--show citynavigator
( this is only one example - there are more undocumented screens like

this)

Just be aware that this feature (hide/unhide) has just been added to

version
3.50. The feature was added after your gps was manufactured and

packaged
and therefore will not show up in your manual. Check out
http://www.garmin.com/support/downlo...ils.jsp?id=547 for the change
history, alll of which probably would not be in your manual.

The last three are NOT toggle switches. This wording (SHOW or HIDE)

make
it
very difficult to understand what type of map is ON or OFF.
"SHOW" and "HIDE" are not friendly toggles.

And neither would i assume were they ever intended to be.........That

whole
menu (described above) does not contain "toggle" switches (i take it you
mean check boxes).

When I toggle the Bluechart Pacific by having it set to HIDE the PAGES

do
NOT seem to change if BASEMAP is on HIDE.

??

Do you mean " the basemap is hidden" ? If it says Hide Basemap, then it

is
being displayed currently.......I think you getting confused with
terminology and menus.;-)

They remain City Navigation PAGES instead of MARINE navigation PAGES.

CN will override Bluecharts which override Basemap.....you cannot have

one
showing through the other.....

Is there a way my PAGES can default automatically to MARINE or
CITYnavigation?

No

Guy
