Why, because they followed all the procedures for camping in an area
where crocs are present.
ie a long way from the water, no food, no fishing gear eyc etc.
This is the first recorded instance of a croc travelling as far as it
did to attack anyone let alone a sleeping camper.

You are making assumptions... there was nothing in the article to
substantiate this.

Ummm the victim was asleep.

Not according to the article Oz.... he was awakened by a bump on the tent.

Not something I'd like to see, especially after the croc followed his
usual method of stuffing his prey under an underwater log for a few
weeks to tenderise it before comsumption.

What does it matter after you are dead?

The camper was asleep and followed all guidelines.

What guidelines? It stated nothing as such in the article.

You probably should come out to Australia. There are many places where
guns are almost essential as a survival tool.
We see no need for guns in the cities.

You probably should come to the Northern reaches of Canada.... we have way
more wild open spaces than you folks do. Many more Predators and if you list
Pigs and Crocs as your Apex Predator... well Oz.. really.... you should
come up this way! I'll show you predators. I often travel deep in the bush
without a gun. Then again I don't always need a gun to take down my food.

Oh, OK, maybe next time you're out here and a 200kg ferral pig decides
to charge you without warninng, and without you even knowing he was
there, you might change your mind. Those tusks will tear open a human
like a letter opener does a letter.

Oh Yeah... gotta watch out for those Feral Pigs..... jeeez... come on Oz....
those things are hard enough to see let alone encounter. How many people in
your country have been killed by a feral pig Oz?? No Really.... How many?

You think you are the only country with Feral Pigs ????? Samoa has Feral
Pigs Oz.. I lived there and hunted them.... it's a friggin PIG! Get a Grip!
They are PREY! They do actively prey on tubers and roots Oz!!! It's not
like they are stalking you... maybe defending themselves.. sure.. but
killing?? PLEASE!! Spare Me! What's next.. Rabid Koalas??? Even your
poisonous snakes are laid back!

Watch those Kookaburras... they'll peck out your eyes! Oh yeah.. those
Dingos.... bad dog, down boy!

Sheesh!
