No, not all righties are scumbags. There are many righteous
conservatives of conscience whose views are well-reasoned and acceptable
by men and women of good will.

There are a couple of righties in this very newsgroup who seem quite
reasonable to me, even on the issues on which we are diametrically
opposed. But those righties are in the minority here. Most are
closed-minded ideologues who support every brainfart George W. Bush
emits, and who think a rightie who strays from that path is a traitor.
Several of the righties here, for example, call John McCain a traitor.
Those are the scumbag righties.

How do you feel about John McCain?

I like him a lot personally, and respect him and his ideas, even though
many of his ideas are the opposite of the ones I hold. But McCain is a
man of integrity, and reached his views intellectually. I also admired
Barry Goldwater late in his life.
