Michael,
I'd have to say the newsgroup exposure helped; traffic on the web page
where I had photos and boat info always increased noticeably after a
posting, which I did about once a month. Some other boat ad sites seem
also to mirror postings here, and that directed some hits to the web
site as well, a total of around 300 over 6 months from the rec
posting. I also did newspaper ads in the Dallas-OKC papers.
The eventual buyer was in the marina looking at boats in brokerage,
saw our for sale sign and picked up a flyer we had on the boat.
It takes the right person to find the right boat for them at the right
time, and that means any exposure helps, and the cost of the
rec.boats.marketplace exposure is pretty hard to beat!!
I did get one fraud call from the listing (the old "I'll send a
cashier's check if you'll send $500 to the shipping company to arrange
for moving the boat" scam, with the creative wrinkle of claiming
hearing impairment so that a phone operator read the caller's messages
to me and typed my responses back....

Price reduced:$3700, OBO
About to place in marina brokerage; make offer now and a substantial
part of a broker's fee can be yours in price reduction.
A great starter boat; clean, well-maintained, roomy 24-foot,1978
sailboat; must see and sail to appreciate; trial sail available for
serious prospective buyers.
Slipped at O-30, Cedar Mills on Lake Texoma.
