The propeller on my boat has a 13" pitch.. When I use the calculator
the speed agrees with what I'm seeing.
My question now is: What prop pitches do people use on a 23Ft outrage
with a 225 Merc? I've seen notes mentioning 17" and 19" pitch.. Any
advice on what is put on as a stnadard would be great.
I bought this boat used, 55 hours on the engine, and I can't beleve
they would sell it with a 13" pitch prop... The list of props for
this engine don't seem to even go down to 13"!
Any clues would be appreciated...
Thanks,
Jon
a 17" should do the job. a 13" would definately cause your engine to
go beyond wide open throttle max rpm, which it isnt. i highly doubt
its 13" pitch and rather it is 13" diameter which is fairly standard
for a v6 gearbox. if it is a standard merc prop it will be cast into
the hub. the steps you should take to determine the correct prop.....
first correctly determine your current prop pitch (its not 13 if you
only get 5k rpm)
if infact your max rpm should be closer to 5.5k rpm select a prop at
least 3 inches less in pitch then the current prop if you only get 5k
rpm.
make sure to choose the same material the prop is currently made from.
aluminium propellors are more flexible then ss. a 15" ss prop is
fairly equivalent to a 17" aluminium prop.
