Like older cars, condition becomes more important than age in determining
value. A 1975 that's always been stored indoors will be in better shape
than a 1990 that's been out in the rain or often covered wet. I'm currently
changing rotten wood flooring on my '88 Sea Ray, which I thought was a great
deal at $4500. It's a beautiful boat but I had to change the plywood under
all the seats and now a wooden hatch over the under-floor fuel tank.
Luckily I'm a woodworker.
Probe under the seats and the floor for soft spots. Look for excuses to
knock the price down.

Also don't just assume you can "go get it reupholstered". Cost of total
reupholstering of my Sea Ray would be over $3000. $1000 for just the
sleeper seat and the swivel driver seat. Good condition roof and covers
adds to the value. If missing or worn, they are very expensive to replace,
especially the custom ones with snaps.

Around here, tri-hulls have a bad rap and have a much lower value. The
rumour I've heard is that they can flip when cornering hard into another
wake or in heavy waves. One that's driven in a sane manner should never
give you a problem.

om...
My husband had been looking for a boat to fish, etc and found a 1975
Glastron Beau Jack Super Pro. They are asking $3450 for it. It appears
to be in very good shape. I am what you would call picky when I look
at anything, be it a horse trailer, truck but I don't know much about
boats. I know there are many deciding factors in purchasing but is
anyone familiar with this type/year or make of boat and does the price
seem in the ballpark of what a boat like this would cost. I know very
little about boats and he knows some. We have friends who have new
boats but they tend to not be as "frugal" as we are and buy 20-40k
boats so I don't know if they would exactly give me a valid opinion
not being familiar with older boats. Also, this is a tri-hull boat
which I have been told is a more stable boat. Is this true? Any info
would be appreciated. This would just be a toy he would use casually
and he has been looking for a few years but he seems to really like
this boat and the price range. Thanks
