I finally did it!
I finally did it! Knocked off another silly goal.
I've been wanting to carry my spinnaker from LI Sound up
the mouth of the Housatonic River all the way up past the club
house. It's only a mile or so, but the shifty winds have dashed
my hopes many times. And I did it on a Tuesday--so no one
saw it. It would have been more fun to put on a show for the
club. Most members are boring and motor up to their moorings.
Short tacking on the way out of the river convinced me, that
despite the wind shifts common at certain parts of the river, we
could carry the kite all the way in. Well the wind veered, but
not enough to screw things up!
I forgot to bring my new runner today, but had the reacher.
This turned out to be the perfect sail after the wind veered and
most of our time was spent with the pole up close to the forestay.
We even got a little surfing in which helped sailing against the ebb.
Patty and I went out for dinner to celebrate a great sail, and
spent hours doing curls at the bar.
