You know, Mooron, part of this has to do with the fact that you are dealing
with the Canadian social medicine program. My cousin in Ontario was a home
health aide and worked in a nursing home for a long time and she said
conditions were desperate. I know from my daughter-in-law, who works in a
home in Georgia, that the quality of care is not the same as here in
Michigan. For the most part, Michigan homes are run decently. Like I said,
ours is a top of the line establishment and is totally private pay. My
aunt, however, was in a Medicare/Medicaid funded home last spring after
heart surgery and the care she received was outstanding. If you're coming
fromthe premise that yes, Canadian nursing homes leave a lot to be desired,
then maybe I can see your point. It's not like that, here, though. We are
regulated to death and the smallest complaint from a family member has the
State of Michigan investigating immediately lobby group, Citizens for Better
Care on our doorstep for an investigation. The fines and penalties if
you're found negligent are steep and are paid over to the resident.
