The transom on my 1996 16 foot Discovery Marine Inc. aluminium fishing
boat is powered my a Merc 20 and when you tighten the motor mount
clamps the aluminium on the inside of the boat bends inwards. Is there
a wood core that is rotten or is it just that the metal is too thin
and not meant to be clamped. If rotten how do i fix it?
Just guessing here, but it's aluminum clad wood. On a 1996, it's
probably pressure treated, so the wood most likely isn't "bad" but
that area may be compressed by the motor clamps.
Back in the day, I always used a small piece of marine plywood or 3/4
inch piece of oak on my small open boats to clamp the motor to the
transom - you may want to try that.
Good luck.

Would not be pressure treated. Copper and aluminum make for really quick
corrosion. Is probably just rotted wood. My 14' aluminum boat is just a
piece if plywood bolted to the inside if the transom.
