At the protest Kerry said he "threw back his medals." People who saw
him said he threw away something shiny and metal. Now he says he only
threw his "ribbons," same thing, which he might have called "medals"
back then.

Actually they've always been called ribbons, never medals.

If he threw back anything, it was probably someone else's medals and
some very easily replaced ribbons. He always keeps his options open.

In other words, he pulled a Bill Clintonesque "I didn't inhale"-type of
diversion?
