Grapes of Wrath
As I reread "The Grapes of Wrath" for the umpteenth time, and given the
current state of world affairs, I've gained a new appreciation for the
vision and wisdom of John Steinbeck.
It's not only one of the greatest books ever (along with Of Mice an Men), but
also a 5 star movie. Henry Fonda literally had to trade 10 years of his
contractual life to snare the role of a lifetime.
Tom Joad: I'll be all around in the dark - I'll be everywhere. Wherever you can
look - wherever there's a fight, so hungry people can eat, I'll be there.
Wherever there's a cop beatin' up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be there in the
way guys yell when they're mad. I'll be there in the way kids laugh when
they're hungry and they know supper's ready, and when people are eatin' the
stuff they raise and livin' in the houses they built - I'll be there, too. When
some lyin president starts a fake war, I'll also be there. No WMD, Ma!"
