Default What #7 ANSWER

Well, you may very well be doomed, but....

Last Season I was swimming behind a Cape Dory 33 that was under sail on a
reach. While the situation was recreational, I found that I could bring the
boat well off course by dipping down to one side of the transom (near the
rudder). Twice I brought the boat off course and nearly stopped. Not sure a
person could manage this on the larger 36, but it might be possible.
Sadly, the autopilot would fight and eventually win.
Your best recourse would be to let the line go. Conserve your energy and hope
for a near impossible rescue.
I remember that this happened to a woman some years back and she had to let the
line go. She was picked up by a fishing boat against all odds. Anyone know the
whole story?
