Default Danger, Will Robinson!!!

Yup... two guys spearfishing off Shark Point in Brewer's Bay... on the point
before you enter Cane Garden Bay. They cleaned their catch and tied the fish
to a rope... then swam to their boat from shoretowing the stringer of fish..
The Lemon Shark bit at the fish on the stringer and ended up removing a
large chunk of calf muscle. Lucky for the victim there was a conference of
vascular surgeons on the island at the time.

I used my towel to stem some of the bleeding. We loaded him into a Suzuki
and drove him to the hospital. If that shark had been interested in anything
but the fish... neither of those two would be alive now. Shark attacks are
largely based on the ignorance of the humans in the water. We are not their
natural food source.

Nurse Sharks won't bite you unless you man handle them. I had a ride on an 8
foot Nurse Shark in the Samoas... I hung on to the dorsal... for about 30
seconds.. then the shark turned on the power and left me spinning at 45 feet
under water. I was skin diving at the time... no tanks. What a Blast!

| Has anyone here actually seen a shark attack or the victim of one?
|
| I stepped on a little nurse shark on St Pete Beach about 10 years ago...I
| ran very fast....
| My brother was scuba diving while he was stationed in Hawaii and a shark
| wouldn't leave him alone so he planted his fist in its' nose and it
left....
