It's possible that Reagan's doctors noticed that he had problems in this
area while he was still in office, after all he perceived reality in a
different way all his life. But he wasn't diagnosed with Alzheimer's
until six years after he was out of office. That's a long gap for a
diagnosis.


You may recall, Doug, that Alzheimer's wasn't exactly a household term
during Reagan's terms. The preponderant body of knowledge concerning it was
amassed during the Nineties, including diagnostic tools and techniques.
Further it's not uncommon for such diagnoses to be made years or even a
decade following the onset of Sx.
