Catboat sailors are not good sailors in general.

Hoo-wee... Bart that is really a wild statement. Would you include Laser
sailors in that sweeping generalization??

... You'll see evidence of
this on their web sites where its stated they never reef or go out when
it's windy. http://www.beetlecat.com/reefing.htm

Well, the Beetle Cat is basically a one-design racing dinghy. True, the
design is over 75 years old IIRC, and it is closely modelled on classic
catboats of an even earlier era, but it is a one-design racing dinghy.

Bigger catboats definitely reef their sails. With the very long boom, it
can be a challenge unless cleverly rigged. My family owned a 22' catboat
with a 455 SqFt mainsail... I can tell you from personal experience that
*some* catboat sailors reef when appropriate.

What's a Point St Jude? I couldn't find one in a google search.

I don't know of a web site talking about them, but it's a 15' hard chine
old fashioned daysailer. Pretty boats, usually with tanbark sails.
