Joe,
"Spray" was indeed a Oyster Dredge that was a Derelict and laying in a
field, when it was given to "Josh Slocum" He restored it and re-rigged
it to a Ketch.
The re-rig was so successful that it would hold course for hours with
the helm tied down,
It was also "Josh's" tomb. He set sail in it in his 80's never to be
heard from again!!
Neal and I often wrote one another about him.
Thats because both of you are old enough to have sailed with him
.
Thinking that was a "WAY" for a sailor to go.
You mean a good way right?
My Myastenia Graves just about eliminated me from
the "WAY" Every time Neal goes missing from the group, I often
wonder???
I think if I knew I was going to kick the bucket Id head out to the
center of the Pacific to do it, Just wonder how long and far my boat
could carry me after
dying. I could set the autopilot and the gen set would run it for 6-8
weeks. Reef the sails balance the boat and lash the wheel in a nice
strong current and perhaps I could sail a few years covering 1000's of
mile after being dead. Cool huh!
