"Undesirable alien" buying a US flagged boat
You obviously didn't read how much compensation I got lol!
you mean how much you say you got.
So, let's take a guess, shall we?
--how many books were printed?
on that kind of book, MAYbe 5,000.
-- how many books were sold to bookstores?
MAYBE 2,500
-- how many were sent back by the book stores as unsaleable?
probably about half
-- how many net sales?
about 1250
what was the royality %?
10% is usual for anyone but an extreme celebrity.
-- what was cover price of book?
I didn't check, but let's say thirteen dollars.
-- net sales income?
about $16,000
-- to the author?
no, $1,600 is total royalties at 10%
-- the author got $1,600?
no he had to pay his agent $160.
-- that's not a lot of money.
certainly not enough to buy a Garcia with.
-- I thought authors got rich
some do, most wait tables of teach high school
-- how about the big time writers of nautical guides and such. They got rich,
right?
most make less than a few hundred dollars a year on their books.
-- can I buy a Garcia on a few hundred dollars?
ah, no.
-- maybe the guy sold 500,000 books?
ah, no.
-- maybe he sold more than 1250?
maybe
-- maybe he sold more than 12,500
maybe, but that would be unusual for that type of book.
-- maybe he sold more than 125,000 books?
yeah. maybe
-- could he buy a Garcia for $150,000?
not usually. besides, he wouldn't have that in aftertax income.
-- you mean he is lying to us?
well, he does make about 9% of the selling price of each bood sold. he got
Felton to say *he* wanted a book. So, if Felton comes through, the guy made
maybe a buck, less taxes for his efforts today. If he in fact has earned out
his advance at this point. Most books of this type never earn out their
advance.
-- perhaps you know people in the business?
perhaps.
