If you simply go to the Yanmar site, or the Mastry site you'll find the curves
for typical marine diesels. Contrary to your claim, the best efficiency is
usually down around 2400 RPM, not at full throttle where the engine's advertised
HP rating is taken.

The Yanmar 4JH3-HTE your article talks about is rated at 175 grams/hp-hour at
full power, which is 18 HP per gallon, but the efficiency goes up to 153 g/hp-h
at reduced rpm, which is 21 HP per gallon.

Sorry jaxie, the mistake you're making is thinking that marine engines are most
efficient at full throttle, or that they are normally run that way.
